When I was 10 years old, the headlines were filled with warnings of climate catastrophe. I felt fury and fear, and waited for the grown ups to start fixing it. That was 30 years ago. Today, a new generation of children is pointing to the grown ups, their fear and fury magnified by decades of inaction.
When my six-year-old daughter asked me why there was a picture of a girl on the front page of the newspaper, and why did she look so angry, I told her. I told her about fear and fury, about disappointment and failure. I told her that this is why I ran for Council — and that I know it won’t be enough. No single person’s actions will be enough — not even Greta Thunberg’s. But together… well, there’s power when you work together.
I was furious and fearful about this as a child. I still am. But I’m also complicit. We all are. Now, we need to force the change we’ve been waiting, agitating, asking for.
